Oleksii S embarked on a life-changing journey from Eastern Europe to Canada just over a year ago. Now, his life has changed again; he won $1 million on the August 16 LOTTO 6/49 draw!

Oleksii, who settled in Winnipeg with hopes for a safe and happy future, said winning $1 million has more than secured what he had hoped for his time in Canada.

“I am very happy to be in Canada,” he said while claiming his prize. “And I’m excited to build a future here… now more than ever!”

This part of Oleksii’s journey began when he stopped at the Sam’s Food Fare at 4-81 Garry Street in Winnipeg to pick up a LOTTO 6/49 ticket. The winner returned to the store in late November to check some of his tickets.

“I guess you could say I collect tickets,” he chuckled. “I don’t check them often, but I checked this one a few times because I couldn’t believe what I saw!”

“I still can’t believe it!” he continued.

Though Oleksii says he doesn’t have specific plans for his windfall at this point, he said his future is looking brighter than ever.

“A million dollars will make a lot of things better and less stressful for me,” he said. “I’m very grateful.”

Oleksii is the fifth Manitoban to win $1 million on LOTTO 6/49’s Gold Ball Draw this year. His winning number was 29325338-01 (a white ball).
